Schengen Visa
from Chennai.
One visa, thirty countries — but you must apply to the right consulate, and getting that wrong is the most common reason a Chennai Schengen application fails before it is even assessed.
How a Schengen Application Works.
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| Step 1 | We determine which country you must apply to. This is not a choice. You apply to the country of your main destination — where you will spend the most nights. If your nights are split evenly between countries, you apply to your country of first entry. Applying to the wrong consulate gets the file rejected without assessment. |
| Step 2 | We identify the correct visa application centre in Chennai for that country, since different Schengen states appoint different operators, and book your appointment. Slots for the popular consulates disappear months ahead for summer travel. |
| Step 3 | We complete the application form and assemble the file — including the travel medical insurance covering the whole Schengen area with a minimum of thirty thousand euros of cover, which is mandatory and is checked. |
| Step 4 | We build your itinerary evidence. Schengen consulates want a coherent day-by-day plan matched to confirmed or provisional bookings, and the nights in the itinerary must support the consulate you have applied to. |
| Step 5 | You attend the visa application centre in Chennai for biometrics and submission. Fingerprints are stored for 59 months, so if you have applied for a Schengen visa in the last five years this step may be shortened. |
| Step 6 | The consulate assesses the file. Fifteen calendar days is typical; it can extend to 45 days where additional scrutiny applies. We track it and deliver your passport back to you. |
Apply six to eight weeks ahead at minimum, and earlier for summer travel. Appointment availability at the Chennai centres for the popular consulates is the binding constraint.

Schengen applications are assessed more mechanically than UK or US ones. The consulate is largely working through a defined list, and a file that is complete and internally consistent tends to be approved. That cuts both ways — a missing or mismatched element is a straightforward refusal.
The main destination rule
This causes more trouble than anything else. If you are flying into Paris but spending seven nights in Rome and two in Paris, you apply to Italy, not France. If you spend equal nights in several countries, you apply to your country of first entry. Applicants who apply to whichever consulate has an appointment available get their file returned unassessed, having lost the fee and the appointment slot.
The insurance requirement is checked
Travel medical insurance valid across the entire Schengen area with a minimum of thirty thousand euros of medical and repatriation cover is mandatory, and the certificate is verified at submission. A domestic policy or a card-linked insurance that does not state Schengen-wide cover at that limit will not be accepted. We arrange a compliant policy as part of the file.
Itinerary coherence
Your bookings, your stated plan and your consulate choice must tell one story. An itinerary with unexplained gaps, or hotel bookings that do not cover every night, or a plan that would be physically impossible in the days available, reads as an unreliable application.
Understanding 90 Days in 180.
How the rule works
A short-stay Schengen visa allows a maximum of 90 days of presence within any rolling 180-day period across the whole Schengen area combined — not 90 days per country and not 90 days per visa. The 180-day window is calculated backwards from any given day, so it moves continuously. Two 50-day trips four months apart can breach the limit even though each trip was individually within 90 days.
Why it matters to you
Overstaying, even unintentionally, results in entry refusal on your next trip and can create a long-term bar. This catches travellers with family in Europe who visit several times a year. Before we file, we work out your existing usage across previous trips and tell you how many days you actually have available — a calculation most applicants have never done and most agents never mention.
What Chennai Applicants Should Know.
Which consulate, in practice
Different Schengen countries appoint different visa application operators, and not all of them run a centre in Chennai for every country. For some consulates a Chennai applicant submits locally; for others the file routes through Bangalore or Mumbai. We confirm the current arrangement for your destination country at the time you apply rather than assuming, because these appointments change.
Multiple-entry visas
Applicants with a clean history of previous Schengen travel who have complied with the 90/180 rule are increasingly issued longer-validity multiple-entry visas — one, two or five years — rather than single-trip visas. Each entry remains subject to the 90/180 limit. If you travel to Europe regularly, your travel history is an asset and we present it as one.
Travelling for a specific purpose
Business travel needs an invitation from the host company and evidence of the business relationship. Visiting family needs the host's residence documentation and an invitation. Attending an event needs the registration confirmation. The base file is the same; the purpose-specific evidence is what changes, and it is usually the piece applicants underestimate.
Funds
There is no single published figure, because each Schengen state sets its own daily subsistence requirement. What matters is that your bank balance comfortably covers the full trip — flights, accommodation and daily expenses — with a clear margin, and that the money has been in the account long enough to be plainly yours. A large deposit made shortly before applying without a documented source is read the same way here as it is by the UK.
Applicants outside Chennai
Biometrics require attendance in person at a visa application centre. We prepare the file, arrange compliant insurance and book the appointment for applicants across Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, and tell you clearly which centre you need to attend and when.
