Canada Visitor Visa
from Chennai.

Canada issues visitor visas for up to ten years, and a large share of Chennai applications are parents visiting children who have settled there. The Super Visa is often the better instrument, and few applicants know it exists.

Process

How a Canada Visa Application Works.

Canada Visa application process from Chennai
StepWhat happens
Step 1We establish whether you need a standard visitor visa or whether the Super Visa fits your situation better. If you are a parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, the Super Visa allows much longer stays and is frequently the right choice, but it carries its own conditions.
Step 2We create your IRCC online account and complete the application. Canada asks a detailed set of questions about your travel history, family, employment and finances, and the answers must be consistent with the documents you upload.
Step 3We prepare and upload the document package. Canada is an upload-based system rather than a physical submission, and file naming, ordering and legibility genuinely affect how an officer reads your case.
Step 4You attend the Visa Application Centre in Chennai to give biometrics after the Biometric Instruction Letter is issued. Fingerprints and a photograph are valid for ten years, so a recent Canadian biometric enrolment may exempt you.
Step 5IRCC assesses the application. Processing times for Indian applicants vary considerably by season and volume, and IRCC publishes current estimates that move week to week. We check the live estimate for you rather than quoting a fixed figure.
Step 6On approval you receive a Passport Request letter, and your passport is submitted to have the visa affixed. We handle submission and return it to your door.

Canada processing estimates for Indian applicants swing substantially with volume. We check the current IRCC estimate at the time you apply and build a realistic timeline around it.

Canada assesses whether you are a genuine temporary visitor with the means to fund the trip and reasons to return. The framework resembles the UK's, but the process is entirely document-based — there is normally no interview, so the file has to speak for itself completely.

The Super Visa, and why it matters

Parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents can apply for a Super Visa, which permits stays of up to five years at a time and is valid for up to ten years. For a Chennai family whose children are settled in Canada, this is usually far better suited than a standard visitor visa with its six-month limit. It requires the host to meet a minimum income threshold, an immigration medical examination, and Canadian medical insurance for the applicant. We assess whether you qualify before you file.

Where Chennai applications go wrong

Incomplete family information forms, which Canada treats seriously. Host documentation that does not establish the host's status clearly. Insufficient explanation of how a long stay will be funded. And an application that does not address the obvious question when the applicant's only child lives in Canada — which is why the purpose-of-travel letter matters more here than for most countries.

Choosing Correctly

Visitor Visa or Super Visa.

Standard visitor visa (TRV)

Suits tourism, short family visits and business travel. Commonly issued as a multiple-entry visa valid up to ten years or until passport expiry, with each stay limited to six months. Lower documentation burden, no medical examination required, no host income threshold. This is the right choice for most travellers and for parents making shorter, regular visits.

Super Visa

For parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents only. Permits stays of up to five years per entry and is valid up to ten years. Requires the host to demonstrate a minimum income, an immigration medical examination for the applicant, and private Canadian medical insurance. Heavier to prepare, but transformative if you intend to spend extended periods with family.

Planning Notes

What Chennai Applicants Should Know.

Processing times move

Canada's published processing estimates for visitor visas from India change frequently and can differ substantially from one month to the next. This is the least predictable element of a Canadian application. We check the current IRCC estimate at the point of filing, and we advise against booking non-refundable travel until the visa is issued.

Biometrics validity

Biometrics given for a Canadian application are valid for ten years. If you have enrolled within that period for any Canadian application, you may not need to attend again. This is worth checking before you assume a Chennai appointment is required, because it can remove a step entirely.

The family information form

Canada requires detailed information about your family members, including those in Canada, and treats inconsistencies here as a credibility issue rather than a clerical error. Where a sibling or child is already in Canada, declare it fully and let the purpose-of-travel letter address it directly. Attempting to minimise family connections in Canada is the wrong approach and is easily detected.

Medical examination

A standard visitor visa does not normally require an immigration medical examination for a short stay. A Super Visa does, and for stays over six months it may be required. The examination must be done by an IRCC panel physician — not your own doctor — and we tell you which panel physicians operate in Chennai.

Applicants outside Chennai

The application itself is entirely online, so location is no obstacle. Biometrics require attending a Visa Application Centre in person. We handle the IRCC account, the forms and the document package remotely for applicants across South India and book the nearest centre for the biometric appointment.

FAQ

Canada Visa FAQ.

IRCC publishes processing estimates that move considerably from month to month for Indian applicants, so a fixed figure would be misleading. We check the current published estimate when you file and build a realistic timeline around it. Because the variance is genuinely wide, we advise against booking non-refundable travel until the visa has been issued.
The Super Visa is for parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents. It permits stays of up to five years per entry and can be valid for up to ten years, compared with the six-month limit on a standard visitor visa. It requires your Canadian host to meet a minimum income threshold, an immigration medical examination for you, and private Canadian medical insurance. If your children are settled in Canada and you intend to spend extended periods there, it is usually the better instrument — we assess eligibility before you file.
Yes, unless you have already given biometrics for a Canadian application within the last ten years, in which case the earlier enrolment may still be valid. Biometrics are given in person at a Visa Application Centre after IRCC issues your Biometric Instruction Letter. We check your history before assuming a new appointment is needed, since it can remove a step entirely.
Not if it is handled properly. Canada requires full disclosure of family members in Canada on the family information form, and inconsistencies there are treated as a credibility problem rather than a clerical slip. Declare it completely and let the purpose-of-travel letter address the obvious question directly — why you will return. Attempting to minimise Canadian family connections is the wrong approach and is easily detected.
Not normally for a standard short visit. It is required for a Super Visa, and may be required for stays longer than six months. Where needed, the examination must be carried out by an IRCC-designated panel physician rather than your own doctor, and we tell you which panel physicians operate in Chennai.
Interviews are rarely required. Canadian visitor visa decisions are made on the documents submitted through the IRCC online system, which means the file has to speak for itself completely — there is no opportunity to explain a gap in person. That is why document preparation and the purpose-of-travel letter carry more weight here than for countries that interview.
